Monster cable is a farce. They have good marketing techniques and a mediocre product that sells for WWWWAAAYYYY more than its worth. Blue Jeans cables are the way to go as far as all your cables are concerned. Monoprice also has great cables for a very fair price.Adam I didn't even bash really. I love the grab a beer and wait reference.
Monster has become the whipping-boy of those who would rail against over-priced cables, so some would dismiss this cable just because of that. Admittedly, I find no reason to pay $100 for a 2M cable of any variety, so Monster must assume some responsibility for how it markets such high priced products.
The argument against expensive cables is this: The data that gets sent from the PS3 to the TV is digital, data 0s and 1s.It either gets sent or it doesn't. There is no improving the quality of it. Your friend may as well get the cheap cables. Check this pic out: Monster cable Ripoff. 13.
It was a lot thinner than I expected, however it doesn't seem weak, and the kinks from being packaged are working out very quickly like Mogami tends to do. On the flip side, I won't say I dislike Monster cable, but it is only anywhere near being worthwhile if it is the 500 series or above.
Thicker is better for longer runs. I use 30-45ft of Canare 4s11 cable shotgun (since there are 4 smaller cables inside which I pair up) and it goes for like $.60-80 a foot. I'm not sure if its in wall rated but it has a ton of jacket on it. P.S. Monster z1 cable is like $3.5 a foot and m1.2 is like $7.5 a foot.
I have read many of the white papers regarding high end speaker cable and their logic is so full of holes I would never give most of them a cent of my money. Buy high quality cable and make high quality terminations.
tQ0Wk. Are the monster cables worth it? This is a discussion on Are the monster cables worth it? within the Non-Sports Gaming forums.
The people at Monster ain't stupid, when it comes to marketing! Since apparently they do this with even old, in-bad-condition cables with no receipt, it might be worth picking up all the beat-up old Monster cables you can find in the thrifts and flea markets, and sending them back for free, new ones
There was a slight difference in component video between Monster and AR. Monster has a tad more realistic skin tones, and the color seemed a touch more realistic. I used the Picture-in-picture views to compare the two cables. However, the AR cable retails for $39,99, whereas the Monster V3 retails for $139,99. Is it worth $100 more?
Cheap cables will start cutting out and wear out much quicker. Crappy microphone cables will even fall or get pulled out cause the lock fits like crap. A quality cable like a monster will last much longer and has a lifetime warranty so you will never have to purchase a replacement. I lost count of how many crappy cables I've replaced.
I've used regular gold plated cables from many different brands (sony, radio shack, trisonic, etc.) and none have failed me yet. This is like 5-6 years now. Stories of monster cables being super quality and everything else failing is probably super exaggerated. In the end its probably not worth the extra money.
