Half-Life is a seminal first person shooter, and a game that everybody should play, if by some miracle they haven't already done so. The various PC versions can be had for peanuts and run on It's a brilliant game though, if you can get your head around its age. It won't have the same impact it had back in 1998 but it's definately worth playing and I also prefer it to Half-Life 2 (probably nostalgia more than anything though). A small warning though, the first game is much more difficult and unforgiving than the second. As long as you play the other games whenever you can you’ll be fine. Since Alyx takes place after 1 but before 2, think of Alyx as the premier movie. Half life 1 will be the prequel - Half life 2 will be the sequel. Thus the story will make sense and be a pretty unique experience if you decide to play this way. 1. Half-Life 1 has more replay value and is a funner FPS experience in terms of gameplay. Half-Life 2 and its episodes are more story-driven and immersive with a clearer focus on showing off new physics tech. 24. JKCodeComplete. • 4 yr. ago. I do actually greatly prefer HL2’s gameplay. I preferred Blue Shift. It felt like a more polished, half-lifey experience. Opposing Force had more features, but the level design was pretty crap, and a lot of the features are not introduced very well. I pretty sure that Blue Shift - you can "master" your skill, and prepare for some Opposing Force bad things like level design and sometimes It's worth it. Start with half-Life. MuchDinnerYUM. •. Yes 100% and if you have a problem with the graphics there are mods and no clicks video about remastering half life also there are good mods like brutal half life and crack life also black mesa classic and the story is amazing and very fun to play and there is a fun multiplayer which is FNTgaFh. If I recall correctly, Opposing Force was particularly good for an expansion. I'd play the episodes of Half-Life 2 first because they continue Gordon's adventure while Half-Life 1's expansion packs are just sideline adventures with secondary characters. Both are worth playing at least once. Do not play Alyx without at least playing HL2 and its two episodes. I have no idea why people are recommending otherwise. Sure the gameplay is nice but the game is meaningless without knowing what world you're getting yourself into. A recap would be alright, but it's a lot better just playing the games yourself. For what it's worth, I could absolutely not play Half Life 1. I tried three times but it feels so slow and repetitive, the controls feel pretty dated, and the atmosphere of Black Mesa is uninteresting to me. On the other hand, I just played Half Life 2 for the first time last month and I enjoyed it. Half-Life 2 Episode 1 and episode 2 are the sequels to HL2, so play those after HL2 Half-Life 2: Lost Coast is just the demo for Half-Life 2. Not really part of the main plot in any way; just an extra level you can play if you liked HL2 Half-Life: Opposing Force and Half-Life: Blue Shifts are two expansions to the first HL.
